Must-read books about Mary Magdalene & the Divine Feminine

I constantly recommend these books to my clients and anyone curious about Mary Magdalene and the Divine Feminine.

I’ve read some of these multiple times, and each time my awareness of this powerful energy deepens. This knowledge has been kept from us for centuries. It’s truly an honor to have access to this wisdom.

I’m forever grateful for the scholarship and passion of these authors.

I hope these books serve you as much as they have served me.

The Expected One: A Novel (Magdalene Line Trilogy Book 1) by Kathleen McGowan

(Kindle) (Paperback) (Audible)

Kathleen McGowan is a master teacher and storyteller. You won’t be able to put the book down as you lose yourself in the adventure and mystery. You’ll be even more captivated when you remember that the trilogy (see below) was written through the lens of profound personal and academic research. If the Davinci Code brought the power and mystery of Mary Magdelene to your awareness, McGowan’s book will satisfy your desire to learn more.

As a former member of Kathleen McGowan’s Patreon community, I’m in awe of her wisdom. She honors Mary Magdelene and the Divine Feminine with her masterful writing.

The Book of Love: A Novel (Magdalene Line Trilogy 2) by Kathleen McGowan

(Kindle) (Paperback) (Audible)

The Poet Prince: A Novel (Magdalene Line Trilogy Book 3) by Kathleen McGowan

(Kindle) (Paperback) (Audible)

Mary Magdalene Revealed: The First Apostle, Her Feminist Gospel & the Christianity We Haven't Tried Yet by Meggan Watterson

(Kindle) (Paperback) (Audible)

I read this before reading Cynthia Bourgeault’s book (see below). I recommend Bourgeault’s book for a deep dive, and Watterson’s book for, what some might say, a more digestible and personal exploration of the Gospel of Mary Magdalene.

You might also enjoy Watterson’s oracle deck, The Divine Feminine Oracle.

The Meaning of Mary Magdalene: Discovering the Woman at the Heart of Christianity by Cynthia Bourgeault

(Kindle) (Paperback) (Audible)

This book is an incredibly thorough and thoughtful deconstruction of the Gospel of Mary Magdalene that’s found in the Nag Hammadi Scriptures. If you’re like me, and you’re seeking the other side of the story that Christianity has sold us, read this book. Mary’s gospel brings light to the power of love and the connection between the seen and unseen that’s within all of us.

Sophia: Goddess of Wisdom Bride of God by Caitlin Matthews

(Kindle) (Paperback)

On my journey to understand the Divine Feminine, I came across the word Sophia. I knew it was the Latin word for wisdom, but I had never considered that this also hinted at the Western concept of the Divine Feminine (ie: the feminine counterpart of God). In my years of exploring this concept, there often seemed to be a focus on Hinduism’s concept of Shakti and the celebrated pantheon of Goddesses. When I learned about Sophia, I finally found the piece that had been missing in my Catholic upbringing. May this book and this concept expand your understanding as well.
